One Church Street Gallery Open Drawing Submission 2010

Details
This first biennial drawing open submission to be held at One Church Street is a new initiative in line with the Gallery’s stated aims, to stimulate the debate surrounding contemporary art. Consequently, a very broad interpretation of what drawing is, will be encouraged in applications.
The exhibition of selected works, which results from this submission, will be shown from October 5th – 30th 2010 to coincide with the countrywide event called 'The Big Draw'.
From the selected works, two artists will be awarded a joint show at the Gallery in October 2011. There will also be a visitor vote award.
The Selection Panel will comprise:
Rod Bugg, whose practice is sculpture and drawing; he is former Dean of Central St. Martins, former Head of Wimbledon College of Art and is currently Emeritus Professor at the University of Arts, London.
Polly Binns, artist and former Research Professor of Buckinghamshire New University; she is currently a visiting Fellow of Norwich University College of the Arts.
Lyndsey Keeling, sculptor and arts director and curator of One Church Street Gallery.

Diary
27 August . Last date for applications to be received.
10 September . All successful applicants will have been notified to bring work to the Gallery.
21/22/24 or 25 September . Successful applicants to deliver work(s) to the Gallery between 11.0 am & 4.0 pm
30 September . Applicants will be notified whether or not their work has been hung.
1 & 2 October . Unhung work to be collected between 11.0 am & 4.0 pm.
5 October . Exhibition opens
8 October . First private view – award of joint exhibition will be announced
21 October . Second private view – visitor vote award will be announced
30 October . Exhibition Closes
31October & 2 November . Unsold work to be collected between 11.0 am & 4.0 pm

Rules and Conditions of Entry
Please read the Rules & Conditions of Entry carefully as all entrants have to acknowledge acceptance of them during the registration process.
RULES
1. The One Church Street Drawing Open is open to entry from artists resident or domiciled within the United Kingdom.
2. Only work made since January 2009 is eligible for entry.
3. All work submitted must be available for the duration of the exhibition:
October 5th – 30th 2010 and all work should be for sale.
SPECIFIC CONDITIONS OF ENTRY
4. Artists may submit images of up to 4 works for a non- refundable fee of £15.
This should be paid when registering for the event either on-line ( see below) or sent as a cheque along with your name, address, telephone number and email address.Please put your name on the back of the cheque.

After your registration fee has been paid, you will receive an application form through the post. One Church Street Gallery will charge no hanging fees but will deduct 40% commission from all sales.
5. Size of work: no specific limitations on size, but applicants should bear in mind the constraints of the gallery’s dimensions, which are approximately 7.80 x 6.60 m
6. Media: Any media except 4D, hazardous materials, or those relying on projectors or complex technological equipment. Light boxes are permitted.
7. Images: Submissions should be made on a CD or by photograph in the first instance. No email images will be considered. At this stage original work should not be sent or brought in.
CDS The artist’s name should be clearly written on the disc, and address, phone no. and email address, and list of titles on the cover.
If possible, thumbnail prints of the entries and their titles and dimensions should be supplied with the CD.
The title of each CD should be the artist’s name. The name of each image within the CD should be the title of that work.
Photos
Hard copy photographs should have the artist’s name and address, phone no., email
address and the title of the work on the reverse.
8. In fewer than 150 words - if you were one of the artists selected for the 2011 joint exhibition, please give some indication of the work you might want to show and how you would benefit from showing a greater body of work in a gallery space.
9. Last date of Entry: All entries must be received by 27 August 2010. From the submitted images, the judges will select those works that they want to call into the Gallery.
10. Notification to applicants whose works are to be called in for the 2nd stage of Judging
will be not later than 10 September 2010. Works called into the Gallery at this stage will not necessarily be hung.
11. Selected works to be delivered to One Church Street Gallery on any of the following dates: 21/22/24/25 September 2010 between 11.0 am and 4 0 pm. From the works delivered, the judges will make the final hanging selection based on both the quality of the work and curatorial considerations of the exhibition.
12. Notification of final stage judging 30th September 2010 applicants will be informed whether or not their work has been selected for the October 2010 exhibition.
13. Unhung work should be collected on 1st or 2nd October between 11.0 am & 4.0 pm
14. Return of Images
Applicants needing cds and photographs returned should send a correctly stamped and addressed envelope.
CARE OF WORKS
15. Whilst the utmost care will be taken of all work submitted, One Church Street Gallery will not be liable for any damage to work, whether such damage is caused by the organizers, staff or otherwise and entrants are strongly advised to arrange their own insurance for works entered.
16. Packing cases are recommended for protecting work of a delicate nature during transportation and storage, and stretch film or bubble wrap is recommended for protecting fragile frames.
If particular handling instructions are required, please print these clearly and attach to the outside of packaged work.
17. Framing: Whilst not being prescriptive about whether or not work should be framed, where used, frames that are simple and not too dominant will help us to curate a more cohesive show.
GENERAL CONDITIONS OF ENTRY
18. The Artists are responsible for ensuring their work meets the above criteria.
19. Works for the exhibition will be chosen by the Selection Panel invited by One Church Street Gallery.
20. The selected exhibition will consist of works that, in the opinion of the Selection Panel, qualify as drawings.
21. Work will be accepted for submission on this understanding, and the decision of the Selection Panel is final and binding and no correspondence will be entered in to.
22. Once registered for entry, no refunds of registration fees, part or whole, will be offered.
23. Standard copyright practice is adhered to. The artist, by accepting these terms and conditions confirms that all work submitted is their own. The Gallery shall not be liable for infringements of copyright by the artists.
24. Sales of works - for the purpose of the application form the sale price should include 40% commission. If your work is accepted for the exhibition the Exhibition Organiser will confirm the sale price(s) with you. The prices are not subject to VAT.
